All change online - Part 2
As we said last month, we are in the process of upgrading our website to make
it much easier to use for us, and extending the features available to VAWF
members. We had to wait to hear from the Big Lottery BASIS2 fund, and
unfortunately this has meant that we are left between internet providers,
so
we have
had to
reduce
our
website to
a core of information and news and resources.
If your organisation had a micro-site as part of our website, we're afraid it
is no longer available. We will be replacing the entire system in a couple
of months, and members will be offered full training and support at this
time to make best use of the website.
If you had a micro-site, and would like a quick page of contact details on our
temporary website, please email cris@voluntaryaction-wf.org.uk will full
details of what you would like it to say (no more then 1000 words).
New Staff
Welcome to Louise Mitchell who started this week as the WFLINk Information and Outreach Officer. Thanks to Delia Edwards who has been filling the role impressively for the last month.
Fundraising Support - reminder of absence.
If you have ever used our fundraising and bid writing support service, you will
know how hard Mutmahim Roaf (Funding Advice Officer) works; well he's
having a well earned break, and will be away during April. Barbara will
be picking
up all fundraising questions, so please direct your questions accordingly.
WALTHAM FOREST RESIDENTS INVITED TO JOIN NEW NETWORK
TO IMPROVE HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE SERVICES
Waltham Forest residents are being invited to have a stronger voice in how health and social care services are delivered in the borough by becoming members of Waltham Forest Local Involvement Network (WF LINk), a new government initiative intended to increase community engagement and consultation around the delivery of local health and social care services.
As one of 33 LINks established pan London, WF LINk aims to involve a wide cross section of local people in the decision making processes around the commissioning, delivery and scrutiny of local health and social care services. WF LINk will build on existing partnerships with key local agencies principally the London Borough of Waltham Forest, NHS Waltham Forest (formerly the Primary Care Trust), Whipps Cross Hospital and the North East London Foundation Trust.
The benefits of becoming a WF LINk member include:
* having the opportunity to shape local health and social care services via consultation and partnership
working in local structures and decision making processes around new or existing services
* ensuring a unified community voice is heard
* highlighting for neglected and under represented issues or concerns
* access to training, mentoring and ICT facilities
For more information about WF LINk and becoming a member visit wflink.org.uk or contact WF LINk Coordinator (Interim) Adessa M'baye on 020 8521 0377 email link@voluntaryaction-wf.org.uk

Lloyds TSB Foundation:
The Community programme focuses on funding core work that helps disadvantaged
people to play a fuller role in the community. We are particularly interested
in work that achieves this through:
* improved social and community involvement
* improved life choices and chances
* helping people to be heard

Changes have been made to the Awards for All programme
This does not mean that small grants funding is coming to an end; small grants programmes will continue to be available from the Lottery distributors.
Awards for All was previously funded jointly by Arts Council England, Big Lottery Fund, Heritage Lottery Fund and Sport England. Now, each of the lottery distributors who supported the scheme have their own small grants programmes up and running, meaning that applicants will have four separate and more tailored programmes of funding to apply to.
The programme will retain its current broad eligibility and straightforward application process. It will cover a very wide variety of projects, focusing on four outcomes:
* People have better chances in life, with better access to training and development to improve their life skills
* Stronger communities, with more active citizens, working together to tackle their problems
* Improved rural and urban environments, which communities are better able to enjoy
* Healthier and more active people and communities

Get involved! Ask the Government for change
Do you have an idea on how the London Borough of Waltham Forest could be improved that would require action by central government? The Sustainable Communities Act is your opportunity to put forward proposals which would improve your local neighbourhood.
Proposals must require some form of action from central government such as a change in legislation, a transfer of responsibilities from one public body to another or a new or changed national policy.
They must also promote the sustainability of Waltham Forest by improving the economic, social or environmental well-being of all or part of the borough. This includes encouraging participation in civic or political activity. Proposals can cover a wide range of sustainability issues such as local production of goods, local food, energy and transport.
If you have an idea or proposal complete the form and send it to consultation@walthamforest.gov.uk by Tuesday 5 May.

NCVO's business plan for leadership centre was 'simplistic'
By John Plummer, Third Sector Online, 14 April 2009
Freedom of Information Act documents reveal more about closure of sector's centre of excellence for management training
The NCVO's business plan for the Third Sector Leadership Centre was strongly criticised in a briefing paper to the Capacitybuilders committee that decided in January not to extend its funding.
The paper, released after a request by Third Sector made under the Freedom of Information Act, says the business plan had "a strong focus on generating income, with clear targets", but was "rather simplistic and poorly drafted".
