Run by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) in partnership with the Department for Communities and Local Government (CLG), the Fund will be spent over the next two years. The aim of the Fund is to create 150,000 jobs, primarily for young people aged 18 – 24 years old who have been out of work for a year.

The Government is keen to work with charities as well as local authorities and social enterprises to turn this vision into a reality.

The Innovation Fund will create innovative sporting opportunities enabling existing participants to do more, or to bring sport to those people who currently play sport only occasionally, or not at all.

The overall aim of this £5 million investment programme is to find and nurture genuine breakthroughs that will transform the way community sport looks and feels in the future.

The fund will invest in new ideas and solutions which will reach a whole new audience, and provide better, more exciting opportunities to a wider range of people, some of whom, perhaps, think that sport is not for them.

Investment will be in small-scale but groundbreaking innovations which have the ability to become the scaled-up, widespread activities that deliver high quality community sport in future years.

The Innovation Fund is open to initial applications from 12 May 2009 to 10 August 2009.

Hope Not Hate - a message from Stella Creasy

"I am contacting you to ask for your support to stop the threat of the BNP by joining the non partisan “hope not hate” campaign here in Walthamstow.

The British National Party are seeking to win seats in the European Parliament. There will be an election on June 4 2009. The vote for the European parliament is across the whole of London. There are eight seats in the European parliament to be won. These are allocated to parties according to the proportion of votes they receive overall. This means the BNP only need to gain 8% of all the votes cast in all of London to win a seat in the European parliament. If they do win, they will receive £250,000 of public money to put towards their campaigns of hatred and division. You can help stop this. Any vote cast here in Walthamstow for any other political party will make it harder for the BNP to get 8% of all the votes cast in London.

I believe voting in the European elections is something everyone who is proud to be part of our local community here in Walthamstow should do. If you would be willing to distribute leaflets for the Hope not Hate campaign to members of VAWF please let me know. Please note these leaflets do not endorse any political party.

Furthermore, I have organised a day of action for this campaign in Walthamstow Town Centre on the 23 May between 11am and 2pm at which all volunteers will be welcome. Please also feel free to circulate this message to other local residents or groups you know and ask them to get in touch directly if they wish to assist with this campaign.

I ask for your support in spreading the message of this campaign and that you use your own vote on June 4th 2009 to help stop the BNP from winning here in London."

DOMINOES - needs volunteers!

People who love art or like getting involved in unusual events, who love London, or simply want to see a fantastic one-off spectacle are needed to help out on a unique art project this summer. As joint winner of the Bank of America Create Art Award, Station House Opera are seeking 1,000 volunteers to help build their giant 10 mile domino rally across East and South East London on 26 July.

Station House Opera's project Dominoes will be a key highlight of this summer's CREATE09 arts festival. Dominoes comprises thousands of breeze block dominoes running through all five host boroughs of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. On streets, through parks and even on water, occasionally disappearing and then resurfacing, sometimes pausing for sculptural performances, the domino line will wend its way southwards from Waltham Forest, through Newham, Tower Hamlets and Hackney, finishing at dusk in Greenwich.

Be part of the biggest public art event ever to hit East London. To find out more, email dominoes@artsadmin.co.uk or visit www.dominoes2009.com.

The William Morris Independent Trust Group

The William Morris Gallery – The Future?

"You are invited to a Public meeting on 10th June (date change) at Harmony Hall Truro Road, E17 at 7.45 to discuss the future of the William Morris Gallery

Over the last 2 years there has been much discussion and debate, sometimes acrimonious, about the future of the William Morris Gallery, which is owned and managed by the London Borough of Waltham Forest. The world’s premier William Morris museum/gallery is solely financed by an impoverished London council, which is unfair and has, inevitably, led to falling standards.

A group of local residents formed the William Morris Independent Trust Group and, with the help of professional advice and research, have drafted a plan to have the Gallery run by an Independent Trust. The Gallery and the collection would still be owned by the Council, and admission would be free as always, but the management would be by the Trust. The use of this organisational structure for the Gallery would allow outside financial investment in the Gallery and the William Morris Gallery could again, become a world-class institution.

The meeting will see the same presentation of the plan that was given to the London Borough of Waltham Forest Cabinet member for Arts, Leisure and Culture, and everyone is welcome to comment, put forward other ideas and discuss how to restore the Gallery to its previous pre-eminence.

We look forward to seeing you at the meeting,
Martin Duncan Jones, Michael Gold, Ros Kane, Anita Morse

Delta Club Launches Community Website Listing

This is a no cost facility – any organization providing community services – especially if they are free – is welcome to be included. If they have a web and a logo all we need is a request to include them which includes permission to use their logo on that section of the website.

The more sources of information about community organizations that are easily available the easier it is for people to access services (and that helps future funding bids).
