WF Council review of 3rd sector strategy -an update
An update on the review was circulated at the Voluntary Sector Forum on 15th June 2010 that benefited from the attendance and participation of voluntary and community representatives from a wide range of activity areas. A paper from the Council's Voluntary Sector development Team highlighted issues of concern that have emerged in relation to the time frame for the review including consultations with VCS organisations; priorities for commissioning -alignment of Council priorities; tendering period, and budget.

The paper referred to a standstill budget of £1.8m as the VCS budget for which commissioning priorities need to be identified. There was consensus amongst those in attendance of the importance of the review to inform commissioning priorities. Also at the meeting Karen Hart, Chair of the 3rd Sector Alliance, gave a presentation on the approach of the Coalition Government to the 3rd sector.

Vetting and Barring halted

In its recent document ‘The Coalition: Our programme for government’, the Government set out its aim to ‘review the criminal records and vetting and barring regime and scale it back to common sense levels’.

In order to deliver this promise and carry out the remodelling, the Vetting and Barring Scheme will be halted. The first phase of registration was due to commence on 26 July 2010.

Although the Scheme is halted whilst the Government undertakes its review, new safeguarding regulations introduced in October 2009 continue to apply. More on the ISA website
