Staying Positive – Responsible Adult Training
10-4pm, 1 September at The Limes, William Morris Hall, Walthamstow
The Limes are currently recruiting for ‘Responsible Adults’ to support Staying Positive workshops in Waltham Forest.
- Staying Positive Workshops are for young people aged 12 – 18 years, living with a long-term condition
- They consist of a series of 3 workshops run at the weekends or school holiday times.
- They are delivered by teams of 3 trained facilitators aged between 15 and 25 years, all of whom have a long-term condition.
- A trained ‘responsible adult’ is present at the workshops to support their delivery
- Training includes an overview of workshop content, health and safety, HSE Appointed Person First Aid and child protection certificate
- Volunteers receive an honararium of £40 per workshop and all travel expenses

Shelted Accommodation Vacancies
Walthamstow and Chingford Almshouse Charity has vacancies at the Walthamstow Almshouses located in Maynard Road and Church End E17. The flats are suitable for single persons over 55, are warden assisted and each flat has an emergency call system. The accommodation is to a high standard, and includes separate bedroom, living room, bathroom/ shower-room and kitchen with appliances. Charges are reasonable and available on application.
Applicants should be living in Walthamstow or Chingford or have lived in Walthamstow or Chingford for a period of up to 5 years, at some time, prior to application and be able to live independently, with or without, a social care package.

Are you from the African Diaspora? Have you always wanted to give back to Africa?
This year Africa Foundation Stone are sending 22 volunteers to go and work in Cameroon towards the Millennium goal 1 to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger amongst women and children in Douala and Yaoundé.

Excursions club for 60+
Community Transport Waltham Forest has launched a brand new summer service for older people and people with mobility problems in the borough offering scheduled trips to key attractions in Waltham Forest and surrounds. The excursions club provides supported transport in accessible vehicles for older people and people with real mobility problems who find it difficult to use public transport to plan a special one off summer trip or a series of days out over the summer.

Workshops for artists
Artillery, the company that manages the E17 Art Trail is running workshops aimed directly at exhibiting artists.
In conjunction with Creative Development UK, Artillery is delighted to be able to provide two interactive workshops for exhibitors old and new. We have been able to secure the services of industry professionals to deliver two, three hour workshops:
Brand Me, Market Me. 30th June, 10am – 1pm
If you’re confused about branding and marketing, or simply want to improve what you already do, then this workshop is for you. It’s aimed at creative businesses and individuals who want to better understand what marketing and branding is and how it can help them to increase their profile, potential sales and commissions.
At the end of the workshop you will :
- Have a clearer understanding of marketing and branding through practical exercises,
- Create the first steps towards your own marketing activity plan,
- Gain valuable information and resource tools to kick start your marketing.
Exhibit Me: The Business of Exhibiting. 14th July, 10am – 1pm
This three hour workshop is aimed at creative businesses and individuals who want to improve the quality of their exhibitions, enhance their visitor’s experience and learn about innovative exhibiting techniques. Whether you’re mounting a simple show in your living room or curating a large exhibition at a public venue, this workshop will provide you with hints, tips and invaluable information to make your exhibition a success!
It will cover areas such as:
- Presentation
- Resources
- Marketing your exhibit (previews, mailing lists, etc.)
…and will also include a 10 point hints and tips checklist you can use immediately for your own exhibition.
There is a fee of £10 for each workshop.
Please note, due to funding restrictions, if we are over subscribed, preference will go to those delegates who are registered self employed.

Disability Action - Launch of the Stay Safe project - 8th June
At the Score building, 100 Oliver Road, 3pm ( for a 4pm start) to 7pm.
Several speakers of interest to disabled people and residents of Waltham Forest will be at the launch introducing the project and speaking on the issues. Disability Hate Crime, domestic violence, bullying and harassment incidents impact every area of a disabled person's life when it occurs.

Community Council Funding - Please tell us your experiences.
One of our member organisations is challenging The London Borough of Waltham Forest (LBWF) regarding unreasonable reporting requirements that are not in proportion to the value of the grant.
In order to help influence a change in policy at LBWF on reporting requirements for small grants to voluntary organisations, they would like examples from our other members of unreasonable, unrealistic, irrelevant, inappropriate or impossible reporting requirements they have encountered when receiving funding from LBWF.
Please could you help by spending a few moments to outline any examples that you have experienced. Please email Debbie Marshall debbie.m@wfda.org.uk (Or she can send you a short survey which she would like returned by 30 March).
She will send a copy of all the examples we receive to all those who provide examples. will keep your response anonymous in any information we give to other members and to LBWF. It will become one of a number of generic examples. If we believe it could be used as a specific challenge to LBWF, we will contact you in advance for agreement, and only do that with your written permission.

The office is located alongside The Limes fabulous play space in Walthamstow, located in the London Borough of Waltham Forest. It based in Walthamstow town centre and is in close proximity to extensive transport links. Walthamstow is a diverse and multi-cultural community, with a busy Town Centre.
The office itself is approx 22’x13’, a total of 286 square feet. It can house 4 large desks, has two large windows overlooking our car park. There is also car park within walking distance from the site.
There are 7 double electrical sockets, multiple IT sockets for network and internet connection and a telephone line is also installed. The front door has an entry code system, while the office itself has its own lock and an alarm system so the premises are very secure. The use of a small kitchen and toilet is also included.
